Consultation Services

Thank you for your interest in our consultation services. Our hope is that having a brief conversation with a counselor can help mitigate some of the symptoms you may be experiencing due to these unprecedented times.

Consultations are not a clinical service and do not constitute as mental health treatment or counseling session. Rather, they provide students with the opportunity to speak with a counselor about what is important to them in an informal encounter. We will listen to your concerns, provide support and perspective, as well as possible suggestions for resources.

Please read through this informed consent prior to requesting a virtual consultation from the wellness Center.

 

Informed Consent

CONSENT FORM FOR STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN CONSULTATION SERVICES PROVIDED BY THE WELLNESS CENTER

Wellness Center staff is here to provide you with support during these times. Consultation session are brief, lasting about 15 to 20 minutes long. These sessions do not constitute as mental health treatment. Should you need speak to counseling staff for further consultation, you are welcome to schedule another appointment. Please note that referrals to providers near you may be recommended for optimal care.  

 

Confidentiality: Communications between a student and Wellness Center staff cannot be shared with anyone, within or outside the University, without your verbal or written consent, unless one of the following arises:  

  • There is clear and imminent danger to an individual or the public, or cause to believe that there is a likelihood of danger to a person(s).
  • There is clear and imminent danger or likelihood of danger to yourself.
  • There is reasonable cause to believe that a child (under age 18) has been subjected to acts of abuse/neglect (physical, sexual or emotional), or if there is reason to believe that these acts will occur

These exceptions to confidentiality are rare. If disclosure of confidential information does become necessary, whenever possible, we will discuss with you any action that is being considered.

If you are providing consent and wish to speak to a counselor, please click on the link below. Enter your complete first and last name. Please be advised, consultations are on a first come, first serve basis and there may be a wait prior to being connected to a counselor. If you are requesting to meet with a counselor outside of consultation hours, on the upper right hand side, provider will appear as offline. Please connect to speak to a counselor during Virtual Consultation hours.

Consultation services are not for students experiencing a mental health emergency. If you are currently in crisis and need immediate assistance, call 911, or contact campus safety at 847-622-9999.
