On Oct. 22, Judson President Gene Crume announced to the student body on Monday that Judson University will begin a football program in the fall of 2019 with the intention of a varsity schedule beginning in the fall of 2021.

“Thanks to generous philanthropic support [from The Next Foundation], Judson University will be adding football to an already successful and meaningful athletic program,” said Judson University President Dr. Gene C. Crume. “From long-standing soccer, basketball, baseball and softball programs to newer sports such as bowling and men’s volleyball, adding football provides opportunities for a new group of student athletes to have access to Christian higher education as they prepare for life and successful careers.”

Football will be the 20th sport for Judson University. The program will compete at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) level. The recruiting process begins immediately as the program looks to add a recruiting class for the fall of 2019.

The Eagles football team will be led by Head Coach Shawn Flynn. Flynn, a 1989 graduate of Judson, played both baseball and basketball during his time as a student. Flynn has a Master’s degree in computer science from Colorado Technical University. He has also been a successful business owner and entrepreneur and has been a successful high school football coach. Judson has also hired three assistant coaches with extensive coaching experience: Brandon New (Defensive Coordinator), Ted Scislowski (Offensive Coordinator), and Edward Grassé (Defense).
